I John Glanvill now of the
parish of St German in the County of Cornwall Efqz make this my laft Will and Teftament in Writing of which laft will and Teftament I make and consistute my Nephew John Glanvill of London Citizen and apothiecary full and sole Executor ne'te my Burial if I leave any order relating to it in writing or by word of Mouth in my last Sicknefs I hereby appoint such orders to be observed othewise I leave it wholly to the case and discretion of my said Executor and in case he shall be at a diftance from the place where I dye to any officer my Relation or Relations who shall live with or near me at that time define how- ever it may be with no little expense as decency will admitt I appoint a Monuement to be Erected in the Chancel of the Church of Broadhinton in the county of Wilts (if it be not done in my lifetime) for my Grandmother the Lady Glanvill which would have be at Least as good as that which she caufed to be Erected for her husband St John Glanvill and as this is not my own Summons but purfuant to the defize and long continues intention of my aunt Elizabeth Glanville (as she declared it to my dear Sifter Winifred Glanvill and my said Sifter to me I command that such her defire should be exxprefsed in the Infcription I give and bequeath to each of my Servants living with me at the time of my decease and who have have don for one whole Twelve month before Twenty shillinga a piece as also the like sume to my constant workman John Vivafls I give to the poor of the several parifhses and places where the different part of my Scattred Eftate lye as followeth viz. to the poor of the parisfh of St German aforesaid ffive pounds to the poor of the parifh of Taviftock in the County of Devon ffive pounds to the poor of the parifh of hilmarton in the County of Wils five pounds to the poor of the parifh of Bradhinton in the same County five pound and to the ppor of the hamletts of Ham and Hatch in the parifh of Kingston upon Thames in the County of Surry fforty Shillings All these to be diftributed not in money but in wheat or Malt or Bread at the difrection of my Executor * Give to my Neice Anne now the wife of one William Hancock of the parifh of St Germans aforesaid Twenty pounds and no more as having not only discharged all that I my ways owed or had been given to her But also given her and that in a Time of Difficulty Two hundred pounds upon the marriage before mentioned I Give and bequeath to my Neices Martha Glanvill Elizabeth Glanvill and Mary Glanvill Twenty pounds apiece partly for Mourning and partly for their removall to such places where they may incline to live and that they may have some thing to Subsist on till the Revenue hereinafter appointed for them shall come in and my will is that such of the laft named three neices as shall be livin or with me at the time of my decease shall be subfisted after it a thte place of my habitation for one whole calendar month upon ffre coft I give to my Nephew Walter Glanvill thirteen pounds in Recompense of so much which he lent to and laft by his Brother Julius I also give to my said Nephew Walter Twenty pounds more And for any farther help I leave and Recommend him (if not married which I am sure must be ffoolifhly if at all) to the discret kindnefs of his Brother John Glanvill my Executor I give my my Nephew Julius Glanvill seventeen pounds And in case his Brother Walter Glanvill shall dye before me thirteen pounds more and he having very justly incurred my displeasure this is all that I defi*yne for him. All the rest of my Teftamentary Eftate whether Goods (not bequeathed by word of mouth in my last Sicknefs and such bequeft of bequefts reduced to writing by some witnefses prefent at the making therefo in one day after my death / money Credits Chattels perfonal or real I Give and bequeath all (after the juft performance of this will Teftament and payment of my debts) to my Before named Executor and Nephew John Glanvill as to my Estate of Inheritance I Give and devise my house with all and every the Appurtenances therein to belonging or on occupyes therewith at home in the parifh of Kingston upon Thames in the County of Surrey to my Nephew John Glanville aforesaid and to his heirs forever I Give and devife my neice Martha Glanvill (if she neither is nor ever hath been marryed at the time of my deceafe) one annuity or yearly Rent Charge of ffifteen pouns of lawfull Britifh money and to my neice Elizabeth Glanville (if she neither is nor ever hath been marryed at the time of my decease) one other annuity or yearly Rent thereof of fifteen pounds of like money (besides the annuitys or Rents which I have already granted them by deed) and to my neice Mary Glanville (if she neither is nor ever hath been married at the time of my decease) one other annuity or yearly Rent thereof of Twenty and five pounds of like money the said severall Annuitys or yearly Rents to be Afsining out of and charged upon my Captial Mefsuages and benefice Lands of my Manor and Lands of and at Celveancy in the parifh of Hilmarton in the County of Wilts To have hold receive and take the said Severall Annuitys or Rents Charge of ffifteen pounds ffifteen pounds and twenty and five pounds unto the said Martha Glanvill, Elizabeth Glanvill and Mary Glanvill serverally and refpectively for and during the severall and respective terms of nNinety and Nine years from the time of my death if she the said Martha the said Elizabeth and she the said Mary Glanvill severally and respectively so long shall live unmarried The said several Annuitys or Rents to be paid yearly and every year during the several terms aforesaid at the ffeaft of the annunciation of the Virgin Mary and the ffeaft of St Michael the Archangel by even and equal portions and that ffree and Clear of all Rates Taxes and impofitions laid or to be charged either upon the Annuitys or Rents themselves or the Mefsuage and Lands out of which they are to Ifsue the ffirft payment to be made on such of the said ffeafts which shall firft happen after my decease and if the said annnuitys or Rents or either of them shall be behind and unpaid in all or in part at either or any of the days on which they ought to be paid and by the spare of Twenty Eight days after and demand be made thereof at the Capital Mefsuage of Cleveancy aforesaid or on my part of the premifses charged with the said Rents and the same be no paid then it shall and my be lawfull for the said Martha Elizabeth and Mary Glanvill or such of them whose annuity or Rent or any part thereof shall be so in arrear not only to distrain for the same upon the premifses charged with the Rent aforesaid and such diftrefs and difrefsed to drive away impound and detain untill satiffaction and payment be made of the said arrears and of all charges relating to the said difrefs or diftrefses but also into the said premifses wholly to enter pofsefs and to take the profits of the same untill such refpective arrears shall be satisfyed together with all cofts that may anyways happen And further I do hereby authorize and impower and if need shall be require all and every immemdiate tenant or tenants occupant occupants of the premifses to pay from time to time not only the annuitys or Rents herein before devized but to also the annuity or yearly rent of ten pounds granted by me by deed Indenets to my aforesaid Neice Martha Glanvill and one other Annuity or yearly Rent Charge of seven pounds and ten shillings granted by the same deed to my aforesaid neice Elizabeth Glanvill and the sums so paid to deduct out of any Rent or Rents of and for the premifses which shall be due to any perfon or perfons claiming the premifses by from or under me. My manor and Lands of and at Cleveancy aforesaid charged with all the Rents aforesaid I Give and Devise to my Nephew John Glanvill aforesaid to have and hold to him and his afsigns for and during the term of ninety and nine years if he the said John so long shall happen to live ffree from any Impeachment of Waste in cutting down an Timber Trees growing or whcih shall grow thereupon provided the trees so cut down be and shall be employed for the repairing of the premifses or the buildings or making any thing new for the bettering of the same and from and after any determination of that Eftate Then to Sr Thomas Pope Blount now or late of Twickenham in the County of Middlefex baron and Thomas Bonet of Salthrop of the County of Wilts Esqz and their heirs for and during the natural life of the said John upon Trust only for preferving the continuent Estate hereinfafter limited and for making Entry and bringing actions and doing anything necefsary for that purpofe it occasion shall be and from and immediately after the death of the said John Glanvill To the first son of the Body of the said John Glanvill lawfully to be begotten and to the heirs Males of the Body of such firft son lawfully to be begotten and for default of such Ifsue To the second son of the said John Glanvill so to be begotten and to the heirs males of the body of such second son lawfully to be begotton and for default of such Ifsue to the third ffourth ffifth and every other son of the said John Glanvill so to be begotten succefsively and to the severall heirs males of the bodys of such refpective sons lawfully to be begotten every elder son and the heirs males of his body being preferred before any younger son and the heirs males of his body and for default of such Ifsue to Richard Edgcumbe of Mount Edgcumbe in the County of Devon Efqr and to the heirs males of the Body of the said Richard lawfully beggotten or to be begotten And for default of such Ifsue To Arthur Hide of Spinton Danebeery in the parifh o Katerington in the County of Southton Esqr and to the heirs Males of his body lawfully begotten or to be begotten And for default of such Ifsue to Richard Baskerville Eldeft son and heir of Thomas Baskerville late of Richardstone in the parifh of Winterbourn in the county of Wilts Egqz and to the heirs males of the of th Body of Margaret Baskerville deceased (Grandmother of the said Richard and one of the daughters of Sir John Glanville) lawfully begotten and for default of such Ifsue to my aforesaid Nephew John Glanville and his heirs for ever providing and always that if I in my liftime or my said Nephew after my death shall buy in all or any of the Tenemente hold of me as of my said Mannor or Cleveancy in such manner that the Chattel or Copyhold Interefts in the said tenements shall be mortged or drowned in the ffreehold and Inheritance of the said Mannor and if the said John my Nephew shall leave no heire or heirs male of his Body which shall arrive at the age of Twenty one years then I do hereby impower and authorize the said John to grant or by his laft will to devise the Manor and Lands of and at Cheveancy aforesaid to such perfons as he shall think fit for the term of ffive hundred years In trust only for the raising of such sume or sumes as shall have been laid out in the buying in of such Tenement or Tenements such term to commence from the ffailing of Ifsue male of the Body of the said John and the money arifing thereby to be difpofed amongft the daughter or other ffemale defrondents of the said John and for want of any such to such perfon or perfons as the said John shall in his discretion think fit and I now having made this provifion and settlement as fairly land discretly as I could without regaring who will or will nto be satisfyed therewith In Witnefs of all this I have hereunto set my hand and seal this three and twentieth day of December in the year of Lord seventeen hundred and twenty and four. I John Glanvill of the parifh of St Germans in the County of Cornwall Efqr make this codicil to my laft Will and Teftament of which I appoint it to be taken as part and hereby confirm the said laft will and Teftament as far as it is not changed by this Codicil or Rendered in effectual by the death of any perfon or perfons since the maing there of the Legacy of Twenty pounds which I gave to my heirs Anne Hancock deceased I give to her Daughter and my Godddaughter Anne Handock if she shall attain the age of Twenty one years to be then paid her together with Intereft after the Rate of ffive per cent to commence from the Twenty second of August next following my decease my Capital Mefsuage Barton and Lands of and in or commonly known by the name of Catchfrench in the parifh and County before mentioned I Give and devife to my Nephew John Glanvill and to his heirs for ever provided always and upon condition that he shall in the compafs of two years after my death Redeem and pay off amy Mortage or Mortages from any summ or summs of money not exceeding in the whole or together the sum of two thousand pounds that is or shall be made of my Mannor and Lands of and at Cloveancy in the County of Wilts And to hereas I have in my laft will and teftament aforesaid devifsed contain annuities or annual Rent Charged to my neices Martha Glanvill Elizabeth Glanvill and Mary Glanvill Ifsueing and to Ifsue out of my aforesaid Manner and Lands of and at Cleveancy now my Will is and I do Give and devise and appoint that the said annuities or annual Rent Charged under the same Limitations and with the like powers and privileges as in and by my said will and Teftament is specified shall Ifsue out of and be charged on my Capital Mefsuage Barton and Lands of and in Catchfrench aforesaid as well as out of the Mannor and Lands of and at the Cleveancy before mentioed untill my said Mannor and Lands of and at Cleveancy shall be difcharged of all Mortgages made or to be made of and any Incumbrances affording the same and then and from thence to Ifsue out of and be charged on the Mannor And Lands of and at Cleveancy only as in and by my said Will and Teftament had been appointed In Witnefs whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this ffifteenth day of June in the year of our Lord 1726 John Glanvill - Signed sealed and published by the withing named John Glanvill in the prefence of us who in his prefence have subscribed our names - Jno Clarke, henry Smart Clerk to Mr Clarke Samuel Gregory Servt to Mr Clarke.

I John Glanvill now of Catchfrench in the parish of St German in the County of Cornwall Esqr make this second Codicil to my last will and Testament of which Will & Teftament (bearing date on about about the 28th day of December in the year of our Lord 1724) I order this codicil to be one additional part Imprimis as to my Mannors Lands of and at Cleveancy in the County of Wilts I confirm the disposal and Devifes thereof made in my will aforsaid to my Nephew John Glanvill and to his several sons Refpectively and Succefsively as in and by the said Will (reference being thereunto had it doth may appear and now for want of such Ifsue I hereby give and devife my said Mannor and Lands to my aforsaid Nephew John Glanvill and to his heirs for ever provided always that if the said John shall happen to dye without Ifsue in the Lifetime of his Brother Walter so that he should come to be heir at Law to the said Manner and Lands and if my said Nephew John shall make no such Gift or Difpofal of the same as to prevent their coming to the said Walter or any pitiful defcondant that may Ifsue or be pretended to to Ifsue from thim then I give and devife my Mannor and Lands aforesaid to my Kinsman Richard Edgcumb of MountEdgcumb Land in the County of Devon Esqr to the heirs males of his body begotten and if he should happen to dye before me then to Richard Edgcumb Eldeft son of the aforesaid Richard and the heirs males of his Body Befotten and for want of such Ifsue to George Edgcumb second son of the first mentioned Richard and to the heirs males of his body begotten and for want of such Ifsue to the Lady Anne Carew wife of Sr William Carew of Antony in the County of Cornwall Bart. and to the heirs males of her body begotten and for want of such Ifsue to Arthur Loyde of Lointon Dansberry in the parifhh of Katerington in the County of Southampton Esqr and the heirs Males of his body begotten and for want of such Ifsue to the right heirs of the said Arthur Loyde for ever Item Whereas I have in my aforesaid Will Giveni to my Nephew Walter Glanvill Thirteen pounds in Lieu of so much he lent to and loft by his Brother Julius I now confirm the said Gift for so much only as I shall not have given him for that purpofe in my Life time and whereas after another Legacy bequeathed to him I have for the Reft left him to the Difrect care of his Brother John I neither did or do design or desire ye his said Brother John should Indulge him in Eafe or maintain him without doing his endeavours to get his own living but only that he should rescaid (?) of him in Sicknefs or Informities Releive him in Miffortunes and wants that happen to him not by own own ffault and make some decent provifidu for him in case he should survive the said John All without giving any Encouragement to Idlenefs or Extravegance Item whereas I have by my last Will and Teftament aforesaid given and devifed to my neice Martha Glanvill one annuity or yearly Rent Charge of ffifeen pounds of lawfull money of Great Britain and to my neice Elizabeth one other Annuity of yeary Rent Charge of ffifteen pounds of like money now I Efteeming those annuities and Rents to be something to small so hereby and devife to my said neices Martha and Elizabeth the further Annuities or Rents Change of ffive pounds yearly to each of them under the same Limitations and Restrictions and with the same powers and priviledges and Ifsmists out of and Charged upon all the same Lands in and by my said Will and Teftament or by a fformer codicil to the same (which codicil bears date in the month of June in thee year of our Lord 1726 and as I remember some day between the 13th and 18th of that Month is or are exprefsed and appointed as to the annuities or Rents of ffifteen pounds above Recited to have been Given and devifsed to them Item I give and bequeath to my Godson John Glanvill son of my Nephew and Executor John Glanvill if he lives to be of the age to Twenty one years are when she shall arrive at that age the summ of one hundred pounds unless his ffather upon hope that he may may be take to Good Literature may choofe to keep my collection of Books (only changing or selling out such Books as may be lefs usefull and getting or bying in their stead such as he shall efteem more so) and in such case if my said Godson has really Good Capacity and an Inclination for Study I bequeath to him at his age before mentioned my said collection of books his ffather during his life Retaining for his own use so many of the same not being Law Books not exceeding one third part of the whole as he shall think fit in Lieu of the aforesaid hundred pounds Laftly if my Goddaughter Anne Hancock shall be living with me at the Time of my Death I order her to be put into handsome mourning (and otherwife compleaaaatly cloathed (the expense of such mourning and cloathing in the shole not exceeding ten pounds) and then returned to her ffather is he defires it otherwife I recommend it to my Nephew and Executor John Glanville in Consideration of what I have done for him (and I recommend it in Expectation of its being willingly complyed with) to take the Mother life

Infant into his care and to maintain at his own charge either with himself or where it shall appear to him most convenient) till be each to the age of one and twenty years if she and her ffather so long shall joyntly live and she be not sooner married which I shope will will not and defire may not be encouragged unlefs difrection shall find it necefsary or very convenient I would have her bred plain and sonsreirely (?) so as to be made an Ufefull woman rather than an Imagonary ffine creature particularly I would have her taught to write and understand common Arithmetick so as to be able to keep household and other Ordinary Amounts But as this depends upon her ffathers confent if he beggles and Kaifes (?) scruples if he arrongantly thinks that no kindness which all other muft think confiderable out and shall not agree to let her stay out the whole time Nothing against the heir In Gods name let him have his daughter to breed her as he will and to leep her as he can without being troubled with any ffather offer In Witnefs of all whcih I have hereunto set my hand and seal with Sixteeeth day of June in the year of our Lord 1732. This Will was proved at London to Two codicils annexed the sixteeth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred thirty five before the workshipfull Thomas Walker Doctor of Laws surrogate to the Right Workshipfull John Bettesworth Doctor also of Laws Mafter Keeper of Commifsary of the prerogative court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of John Glanville the Nephew and Sole Executor named in the said Will to whom adminstration was granted of all and singular the the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased being firft sworn duly to Administon - Examined.
