17th January 1748 On which day appeared personally James Byfeld of the parish of Saint Thomas Southwark in the County of Surry gentleman and made oath that he is the writer or drawer of the will hereunto annexed beginning thus - In the name of God Amen I Benjamin Glanvill of the parish of Christ Church in the County of Middlesex victualler being sick and weak in body but of sound mind memory and understanding do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following to wit - and ending thus - As witnefs my hand and seal this twenty ffourth day of December 1748 - and subscribed thus - Ben Glanvill - and that he received instructions for drawing of the same from the deceased's own mouth and pursuant to such instructions he did on the twenty ffourth day of December 1748 the day of the date of the said will draw up the same in the said deceased's presence and afterwards read the same to the deceased and asked him if he approved of the same that the deceased objected to the words contained in the ffoureenth line counting from the top or beginning of the said will and ordered this deponent to obliterate the same and to interline these words - and to be at her own disposal as she shall think proper - which being done this deponent did then deliver the same to the deceased who did afterwards sign seal and execute the same as and for his last will and testatment in the presence of this deponent and Jos: Cowper and Samuel Ireland the two other subscribing witnefses to the said will and was at all and singular the premifses of sound and perfect mind and memory - Ja Byfeld - same day the said James Byfeld was sworn to the truth of this affidavit before me Chas Linfold Surrogate resent Rich: Cheslyn Notary Publick
This will was proved at London the seventeenth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fforty eight before the worshipful Robert Chapman Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Right Worshipful John Bettesworth also Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commifsary of the prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of Mary Glanvill widow the reliect of the deceased and sole executrix named in the said will to whom administration was granted of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased being first sworn duly to administer
