Regtl No. 277157 20th Durham Light Infantry, serving in France 3 Jan 1917 - 11 April 1918 and 8 Aug 1918 to 23 Oct 1918. He ended military service in 1919; as a private, being wounded 22 Oct 1915, wound examined, clean (shrapnel in right foot, 4th & 5th metatarsals fractured). Upon demobilisation recorded as walking 4 miles with ease but little toe does not move well.
