He ended military service in 1919; as a private, being wounded 22 Oct 1915, wound examined, clean (shrapnel in right foot, 4th & 5th metatarsals fractured). Upon demobilisation recorded as walking 4 miles with ease but little toe does not move well. Also admitted to hospital 1 Jul 1917 due to "internal derangement right knee joint", regarded as Trivial and not effectiing his future efficiency as a soldier, the incident took place 26 Jun 1917 at Shawk Street communication trench whilst undertaking trench reconstruction.
