     John Spray was born on 29 December 1819 at CON, ENG.
     He married Mary Ann Glanville, daughter of John Glanville and Elizabeth Sampson, on 22 August 1844 at Phillack, CON, ENG, (when age calculated as 24 years, 7 months and 24 days) John's brother married Mary Ann's sister. His age recorded 25, hers 24. Fathers named William Spray mariner and John Glanville agent. Witnesses Richard Glanville, Wm Spray.
     He died in March 1848 (when age calculated as 28); drowned off Portreath whilst on a voyage from Wales to Hayle, the ship being driven ashore in a gale. John was drowned as was his mate, ships boy, a female passenger and her three children. The vessel was the Fame of Hayle and John was the Master.
     He was buried in March 1848 at Phillack, CON, ENG.

Other information

     John Spray 1819-48. When he received his seaman's ticket in 1844 he was then a mate and described as 5' 6" tall with brown hair, grey eyes, and fresh complexion and he first went to sea as a boy in 1836 probably in the "Eliza" to 1839. In 1844 was on a Scarborough ship. By 1848 he was the master of the "Fame" of Hayle. When on passage from Wales to Hayle in March of that year his ship was driven ashore in a northerly gale off Portreath. He was drowned as was his mate, the ship's boy and a female passenger and her three children. John Spray was buried in Phillack churchyard.
John Married May Ann Glanville in 1844. She was the sister of his brother William's wife. There were no children.
