Jeremiah Glanville began military service on 29 January 1831 he enlisted in the Royal Navy at Cove, Cork, Ireland as a Boy 1st Class, and was discharged 20 Jun 1831. He recorded Plymouth as his birthplace at enlistment.On 19 December 1849 the Hereford Journal gave an account of the funeral of Adelaide Queen Dowager of England (wife of King William IV), including listing the sailors and ratings who removed the Royal body from the hearse and placed it on the platform in Saint George's Chapel, Windsor. The list included Jeremiah Glanville, boatswain' mate.
