James Glanville left a will on 25 August 1711 In the name of God Amen.I James Glanville the elder of Clifton in the county of Oxon. Carpenter being of good and perfect mind memory and understanding I do make & ordain this my last will and Testament in manner and form following, that is to say First I commend my soul unto almighty God hoping thro' the mercy of my Saviour Jesus Christ to receive full pardon for all my sins & my body commit to the earth to be decently buried by my Executrix hereafter named as they shall think fit. Item I give and bequeath to my loving wife the Messuage or farm wherein I now live for so many years of my term & Estate therein as she shall happen to live and from immediately after her decease I give and bequeath same unto my son Jeremiah & his assigns for all the residual of my term & interest therein. Item I give and bequeath unto my six sons that is to say my sons John, James, Richard, George, Francis & Jeremiah all and to my Grandson Jeremiah Clanfield son of my son Francis the sum of five pounds a piece to be paid to each of them respectively by my Daughter Sarah within twelve months next after my wife's decease. Item I give to my son Joseph and to my loving sister Frances Shevons Four shillings a piece to be paid to each of them within twelve months next after my decease. I give to my sons Francis and Jeremiah my plumb augur & girth saw to have the use & interest therein share & share alike and I also give to my son Jeremiah all my small tools & screws for his proper use for ever. Item I give and bequeath to my Grandson Jeremiah son of my son Francis my Desk and to my said son Francis I give my best coat & best hat And my will is that the Bedstead wherein I now ly, the Table & Benches in the Hall together with Dresser & Shelves in the Kitchen shall continue to remain in & be as standards to the house wherein they now are together with the Table & Benches in the Kitchen. And my will is that the money Legacies herewith before mentioned to be paid by my daughter Sarah shall be paid out of my moneys now or speedily to be putout at interest to Mr. Spindler. And my further will and meaning is that after my decease it is my desire that my daughter Sarah shall have the free use of one upper room or chamber together with the other conveniences of the house when my son Jeremiah or his assigns shall become possessed thereafter for the term of her life in case she shall keep herself to be unmarried. All the rest and residue of my goods and chattles whatsoever not before bequeathed and given to my loving wife Sarah Clanfield go to my daughter Sarah who I make sole Executrix of this my last will and Testament Revoking all former wills by me heretofore made. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto to set my hand and seal Twentyfifth day of August in the year of our Lord 1711.
