Lorrretta Marie Smith, 91, returned to her heavenly home on February 22, 2016, while surrounded by her loving family. Her devotion to her family, and a firm belief in God supported her throughout life and ultimately gave her comfort.
She was born in Morris Township, New Jersey on January 20, 1925 to Paul J. Glanville, Sr., and Ester Glanville as the eldest of their seven children. Upon her graduation from Bayley High School in 1943, she volunteered as a Nurse's Aide with the Red Cross then earned her diploma in 1947 from The Holy Name Hospital School of Nursing to become a registered nurse. After marrying and moving to the West Coast, she continued her education, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree through Chapman College in 1983. Her distinguished nursing career was concluded as a Nursing Supervisor at Washoe Medical Center after more than 25 years of service.
Loretta was also blessed with a loving family. She married her sweetheart, William J. Smith, on April 30, 1949 at Saint Virgil Parish. She raised their two children with patience, discipline and humility. Her dedication to her family allowed her husband and children to pursue their passions, frequently taking her on adventures she never dreamed of. Truly a caretaker at heart, Loretta was kind and soft-spoken, and always had time to minister and tend to folks, never putting her needs ahead of others. She remained active in the Franciscan Order of Saint Thomas Cathedral, a service organization. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at home with her Creator.
