Charles Augustus Glanville began military service on 5 January 1905 recorded age 18, enlisting in the East Yorkshire Regt, no 8051, Private. Height 5ft 4 1/8 inch, 113lbs, chest 35inch expanded, fresh complexion, hazel eyes, reddish hair. 3 large moles on left cheek, Church of England. Army records contain a reference from a Frederick Wright, knowing him 12 years, confirming he was a labourer, and sober honest and respectable. F Wright of 56 Prince Edwards Rad, Hackney Wick, a grocer.He was confimed to barracks for 3 days as punishment for on 12 Mar 1911 "encouraging unauthorised nations to come onto the barrack room verandah" and again as punishment for on 3 Sep 1911 "slackness when on sentry." He ended military service on 11 January 1914 at York, YKS, ENG; at "termination of engagement", transferring to Army Reserve. He must have then re-enlisted to be slightly wounded 29 Oct 1914 in France, admitted to King George V Hospital Dublin 5 Nov 1914, granted furlough 2 Mar 1915 to 30 Mar 1915 to 94 Berkshire Road, Victoria Park, NW and then transferred to 520 HS Employment Coy Depot West Yorkshire Regt 30 Jun 1917. Finally discharged 6 Apr 1920, recording 40% disabled due to shrapnel wound spine and disease of antrum.
