  • William was was one of the first intake of Boy Apprentices to the RAF at Halton, where he qualified as an Aircraft Rigger. Career highlights were being sent to Karachi Pakistan to erect an Airship Mast for the R100 & R101 Airships, which never got there! He was in Singapore when it was being attacked by the Japanese & with other Senior RAF Warrant Officers drew straws for a seat in a Flying Boat going to Australia - he went. He was back in Singapore in 1945 to find RAF survivors & help with their rehabilitation. He mentioned that it was remarkable how many "old sweats' survived & how many recruits did not. His working life after he left the RAF was as a Trade Instructor at Parkhurst prison on the Isle of Wight.
