     He married Eliza (Surname Unknown) before 1871 it is unclear whether Eliza was Richard's wife in the 1871 census - both were recorded as boarders with a Condition of married, but Richard's wife Maria appeared in later census records. Hence Eliza may be a relation of Richard, and aquired her surname through another marriage.
