Clifford Frank Glanvill was a 32 year old police constable, station at Seaton, dying in Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital following the breaking off of an engagement.
He had been found in a field near Beer Common with two revolvers, one a .22 with five discharged cartridges. He was conscious and told another constable he had done it himself with the .22
He was operated on for removal of fragments of the skull and a bullet from the brain, and partially recovered consciusness but after 24 hours his condition slowly went down with some evidence of wound infection.

A letter had been found in his pocket addressed to a girl, and his father confirmed the breaking of the engagement.
