Clifford Frank Glanville was born on 5 May 1908 at Taunton, SOM, ENG; registered Taunton.He was baptized on 7 June 1908 at St Andrew, Taunton, SOM, ENG, parents Charles Ernest Glanville and Alma.
He died on 12 September 1940 at Exeter, DEV, ENG, (when age calculated as 32); recorded age 32, registered Exeter.
The Exeter and Plymouth Gazette 20 Sep 1940 reported on his death:
Clifford Frank Glanvill was a 32 year old police constable, station at Seaton, dying in Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital following the breaking off of an engagement.
He had been found in a field near Beer Common with two revolvers, one a .22 with five discharged cartridges. He was conscious and told another constable he had done it himself with the .22
He was operated on for removal of fragments of the skull and a bullet from the brain, and partially recovered consciusness but after 24 hours his condition slowly went down with some evidence of wound infection.
One bullet penetrated his skull, two others were found flattened against the outside.
A letter had been found in his pocket addressed to a girl, and his father confirmed the breaking of the engagement.
The Coroner found "that Glanville killed himself whilst the balance of this mind was disturbed". He had been in the police for nearly ten years and his conduct had been highly satisfactory.
His estate was probated on 25 October 1940 indexed as:
1940 GLANVILLE Clifford Frank of the Police Station, Seaton, Devonshire who died on 12 September 1940 at Exeter. Administration at Bodmin on 25 October to Charles Ernest Glanville, railway goods guard, effects £246-9-9.
He was buried in 1940 at Wellington Road Cemetery, Taunton, SOM, ENG.
