     Between 1885 and 1893 he was incarcerated for periods in both York and Wakefield prison for offences such as Shouting (common assault), housebreaking and theft. Prison records state he was Doncaster born, Church of England, 5ft 9 3/4in tall, with tattoos.
     On 6 November 1885 at York Castle he was sentenced to 1 month for common assault upon 2 Indictments.
     On 3 January 1887 at the Christmas Quarter Sessions at Leeds he was sentenced to 12months for housebreaking before convicted of felony.
     On 14 October 1889 at Wakefield Michaelmas quarter sessions he was sentenced to 2 years for housebreaking before convicted of felony.
     On 7 June 1909 he was taken into custody and subsequently pleaded guilty to attempting to obtain five pounds from Ethel Sepora Moss on 24 and 27 May 1909, with intent to cheat and defraud.
He was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment with hard labour.
