Loren John Green, age 88, passed away on April 6th, 2018 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. He was born in Hanford, CA. on July 3rd, 1929 and lived in the Central Valley until moving to Salinas in 1940. He was a proud graduate of the Salinas High School Class of 1948. Loren excelled in football and in track & field at both Salinas High and at Hartnell College, earning many all league and team honors in both sports. He married the love of his life, June Glanville Green in 1951. He was drafted into the army, serving in Japan during the Korean War. He returned home to Salinas where along with June they began to raise their family. He worked in the plumbing supply business until his retirement. Loren immersed himself into the life of his 3 children (daughter Terry and sons, Richard and Alan). He showered them with love. He enjoyed playing games and sports with his children, his 3 grandchildren, cousins, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was a founding board member of the Salinas Valley Track Club and served on the local Little League Board for 10 years. He was involved in the North Salinas High School Booster Club and coached track & field for over 30 years in the Salinas community. He was known as “Coach Grampa Green” to student athletes at Notre Dame, Salinas and North Salinas High Schools as well as his many years of coaching kids with the track club.
Loren was preceded in death by his parents John and Christy Green, his sister Janell Green, and precious daughter Terry Green Patterson.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, June and his sons Richard Green and Alan (Jeannie) Green. He has 3 grandchildren that he adored, LIse Green of Rockville, MD, Hannah Green of Turlock, CA. and Austin Patterson of Paradise, CA.
A Celebration of life for Loren Green will be held at Struve & Laporte Funeral Chapel, 41 West San Luis St. in Salinas at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 21st, 2018.
