Bessie Dillard Glanville, 95, peacefully passed away in her sleep and went to be with the Lord Jesus on January 28, 2014.
Bessie was a sweet and wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She was married to Charles "Charlie" Glanville for 71 years before his death in 2008. Bessie was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mamie Dillard; and brother, John Dillard.
She was born in Richmond, Virginia October 27, 1918. Bessie has three surviving children and spouses, Charles Fredrick Glanville and wife Pamela, Allen Glanville and wife Leigh, Jane Glanville Crotts and husband John H. Crotts, Sr; she was blessed with nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. Her grandchildren and their spouses are Charles "Chuck" Glanville, David Glanville and wife Lisa, Peter Glanville, Lora Saunders and husband David, Teresa Spruill and husband Mark, Gregory "Greg" Glanville, C. Fredrick Glanville, John H. Crotts, III and wife Lynn, and Jeffrey Crotts and wife Judith.
Bessie was a member of Trinity Baptist Church for 50 years. She and her husband Charlie were also members of Bayside Baptist Church for several years prior to moving to Lighthouse Point Retirement home in Chesapeake where she is a member of Great Bridge Baptist Church.
Bessie was a lifelong Christian servant and example of the Lord. She taught Sunday school for over 20 years. She was in charge of the homebound ministry at her church for many years, visiting people and taking them to the doctor's appointments and sending many cards.
Bessie has resided at Chesapeake Place Retirement Home for the last five years where she has received wonderful care.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 1485 Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach, VA. There will be a viewing and visitation starting at 10 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. conducted by her grandsons, The Rev. John Crotts, III and Rev. Jeffrey Crotts. A reception for all will follow the service at the funeral home.
