Obituary:
Mason City – Dean Glanville, Jr., 94, of Mason City, died Monday, November 29, 2010, at Good Shepherd Health Center. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, December 3, 2010 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 South Pennsylvania Avenue, with Rev. Keith Scott officiating. Visitation will be at Wesley United Methodist Church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Wesley United Methodist Church or the Mason City Community Kitchen.
Dean was born July 2, 1916, in Mason City, the son of Dean and Marjorie (Moore) Glanville. He attended Mason City High School. Dean was united in marriage to Enid Cordas on March 15, 1938, at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Hampton, IA. They spent most of their 68-year marriage living on a farm just south of Mason City and were members of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Mason City.
Dean was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served in the Seabees, the construction battalion of the navy, at Pearl Harbor. Upon his discharge in 1945, Dean returned to his employment at the Mason City Brick and Tile (Cantex Industries) where he was machinist and master mechanic in charge of all plant maintenance. He quickly gained a reputation for his ability to devise solutions to a wide range of mechanical problems. Dean retired from the Brick and Tile in 1978 with 36 years of service.
The son of the state game warden at Clear Lake, Dean had a life-long interest in the outdoors and wildlife. He and Enid enjoyed many camping trips and picnics throughout their married life. In the 70s they became very involved in square dancing, spending hours practicing new steps and traveling around the country to attend workshops and dances.
Dean is survived by his son, Tom (Mary Jo) Glanville of Ames, IA; granddaughters, Abby Glanville of Chicago, IL, Kate (Mike) Gerken of Lawrence, KS; sisters, Mary (Bill) Stoynoff of Ventura, IA, Jean (Bill) Riley of Clear Lake, IA; three nephews; and dance partner and special friend, Nadine Price.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Enid; brother, Bob Glanville; and two nephews.

Memorials may be directed to the Mason City Community Kitchen or Wesley United Methodist Church.
Visitation:
Visitation will be held one hour prior the service at the church.
