     He died on 15 February 1915 at Scales Mound, Jo Daviess Co., IL, USA, (when age calculated as 80.)
     He was buried in 1915 at Scales Mount Township Cemetery, Scales Mound, Jo Daviess Co., IL, USA.

     Listed in the Company F roster, 96th Illinois Regiment:
John Hocking - age 22; born in England; miner; enlisted from Vinegar Hill; at Chickamauga was badly wounded in the hip, and fell into the hands of the enemy; was a prisoner nearly two weeks, and when paroled and taken to Chattanooga maggots were crawling in his wound; was in hospital at Murfreesboro two months, and at home three months; was declared exchanged in May, 1863, and assigned to duty in Block House No. 8; during a five months's staty at this point he was in one engagement; returned to the Regiment and was present at its final muster out. Resides at Scales Mounhd, Ill.
