EGREMONT -- Lorraine M. Glanville, 80, of McGee Road, North Egremont, and Punta Gorda, Fla., died March 3 at her Florida home.
Born in Springfield on Jan. 18, 1924, daughter of James M. and Victoria Breault Coughlin, she was a 1942 graduate of Commerce High School. She had resided in Egremont since 1956 and spent winters in Punta Gorda.
While in Springfield, she was a renowned mezzo-contralto and a cappella soloist, appearing in concerts throughout the Springfield and Athol areas and on radio station WBZA-FM.
Mrs. Glanville had worked at the former New England Telephone and Telegraph Co. and Van Norman Machine Tool Co. before her marriage.
She was a communicant of St. James' Episcopal Church in Great Barrington, and a former member of its choir. She was a former member of the National Federation of Women's Clubs, and an active member and historian of the Egremont Garden Club. In Florida, she was an active member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, where she entered the lifelong Order of the Daughters of the King. She also studied and displayed her paintings in county art shows and local businesses in Florida.
Her husband, Frederick H. Glanville Jr., whom she married in 1951, died July 26, 1989.
She leaves a son, Frederick H. Glanville III of West Springfield; a daughter, Valerie J. Winig of Great Barrington, and three grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Lorraine M. Glanville of Egremont and Florida, who died March 3, 2004, will be conducted Friday, March 12, at 11 at St. James' Episcopal Church, Great Barrington, by the Rev. Catherine Woods Richardson, rector. There will be no calling hours. She also is survived by her granddaughter, Megan Alyssa Glanville, and grandsons Andrew Frederick and Christopher Dean Winig.
