Lift Fatality at Newquay
An inquest was held at the Dorothy Cafe, Newquay, on Monday by Mr. E.L. Carlyon on the body of the lad, Selwyn Glanfield, who met with a fatal accident at the Hotel Victoria lift.
The principal witnesses were the head porter and the engineer.
At the close of the investigation the coroner stated that so far as he could see the lift was in perfect working order.
The Inspector of Factories (Mr. Shuter) stated that he had seen a number of lifts, and he should think that at the hotel was one of the best. Every precaution had been taken against accidents.
A verdict of "Accidental death" was returned, and a rider was added that notices be placed warning person not to work the lift until the bottom door was close, which Mr. Bullmore, one of the directors, promised to have done.
