E. Ellen Glanville, 88, of Carbondale, PA, died Friday, April 7, 2023 at the Carbondale Nursing Home, Carbondale, PA.
Born August 4, 1934 in Carbondale, PA, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Dorothy Lilholt Glanville and was affectionately known as Dolly by her family.
She was a 1952 graduate of the Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and continued her education at Baptist Bible College in Johnson City, NY, where she received her bachelor of arts degree. She later received a master's degree from SUNY-Cortland and her special education certification from the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater Campus.
Ellen co-authored the book, "Unto the Least of Thee, Special Education in the Church" and frequently lectured at Sunday school conferences in the Chicago and Michigan area. She had been employed by the Candor Central School District, Candor, NY, as an elementary teacher having taught second and third grade for nine years. Ellen later accepted a position at Shepherds Baptist Ministries, Union Grove, WI, a home and school for children who were mentally challenged. She served various positions at the school for 33 years until her retirement in 2000.
She was a member of the Calvary Bible Church, Jermyn, PA. Ellen was proud of her Alumni Association Service Award she received in 2001 from Baptist Bible College and Seminary in recognition of her faithful and profitable Christian service.
The family expresses special thanks to the staff at Carbondale Nursing and Rehab for their exceptional care of Ellen for the past two and half years.
She is survived by one sister: Mary Lou Perri of Carbondale, PA; several nieces and nephews, a great niece and three great nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a sister: Anna Warholic; a brother: William Glanville; and a nephew.
The funeral was held Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, PA, with Rev. Winston Cannon, officiating. Interment, Wheeler Hill Cemetery, Pleasant Mount, PA.
