John H. Slapak age 74, was born October 5, 1939 in Dodgeville, to John and Lavon (Vivian) Slapak. He married Jean Glanville November 14, 1959 and they had four daughters.
John went to work at the Cobb Lumber Company at age 19. He worked there for Duane Bonnie until 1972 when he bought into it. He sold his share and finished his working career at J&M Building Supply in Highland, retiring at age 70.
John was a faithful member of the Cobb United Methodist Church, Cobb Fire Department, Cobb Lions and the White Eagles Club. He was president of the building commission for the Cobb Community Building.
Survived by his wife, Jean, Daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and Tom Lee, Jan and (Dan) Baker, Midge and (Jay) Ladner and Terri and (Jim) Fugate. Grandchildren, Scott Folkedahl, Ashley (Curtis) Stelter, Whitney (Jimmy) Grahm and Mitchell Cook. Amanda Baker, Ben (Ashley) Baker and Joanna Baker. Bo, Josh and Joey Ladner. Sami and Luke Fugate. Great Grandchildren, Ella Folfedahl, Claire Stelter, Teris, Daniel Pajessa and Trinity Phillips.
Brothers, George (Sharon) Kitsemble, Marge Evans, Bonnie Brennum, David (Mary) Kitsemble, Dennis (Wendy) Kitsemble, Jeannette Vivian and Beverly (Mike) Bertram, and many nieces and nephews. His mother-in-law Carol Glanville, Jean’s brothers and sisters and their families.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John Slapak and Lavon Slapak-Kitsemble, his older sisters, infant Barbara, Delores Barker, Shirley Carter, Arlene Tremelling, and Maxine Howland, his brother Roger Kitsemble along with his wife Mary, father-in-law Mel Glanville whom he greatly respected, and several brothers in law.
John passed into eternal life October 25th surrounded by his loving family. We would like to thank Upland Hills Hospice for their wonderful care the last week of his life. A great big thank you to our wonderful daughters, without whom it wouldn’t have been possible to fulfill his wish to die at home.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, October 27, 2013 at the Cobb United Methodist Church. Pastor Gary Benzschawl will officiate with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Sunday from Noon to 3:oo P.M.
