Thomas Glanville was born illegitimate in 1778 at Whitchurch, DEV, ENG; "Not Cornwall" recorded in 1841 census.He was baptized on 9 December 1778 at Whitchurch, DEV, ENG, Thomas the base child of Mary Glanvill December 9th.
He married Ann Granger on 2 March 1802 at Budock, CON, ENG, (when age calculated as 24 years) Thomas Glanvill, of St Germains, private in Cornwall Militia, & Ann Granger, 2nd Mar 1802. Witnesses Joseph Granger and Christopher Cast.
He married Mary (Surname Unknown) on 8 March 1835 at St Germans, CON, ENG, (when age calculated as 57 years) Mary marrying as Mary THOMAS but strongly suspected of being a widow and not born THOMAS.
Some research indicates she might have been born Mary DAVIS (baptised 1776 to John and Priscilla), married to John THOMAS who died 1834. Via her son John b 1798 and his wife Penelope RUSE or via her son Humphry b 1805 and his wife Ann HADDY or via her son William b 1810 and his wife Mary Ann TRUSCOTT or via her daughter Mary b 1803 she had grandchiildren surnamed THOMAS to account for the other people present with her in the 1841 census (her daughter may be mother of illegitimate John Henry THOMAS.)
He married Mary Clemence on 18 October 1845 at St Germans, CON, ENG, (when age calculated as 67 years) registered St Germans. Mary marrying as Mary Furlong. Both of full age, widower and widow. Both of St Germans. Fathers named Joseph VINCENT labourer, Philip CLEMENCE labourer. Witnesses Mary Ann Copplestone, Samuel Hawke.
He died circa June 1862 at Tideford, St Germans, CON, ENG; registered St Germans, recorded age 83.
He was buried on 4 June 1862 at St Germans, CON, ENG, recorded age 83, of Colhemick Lodge in Tideford.
Other information
Thomas was married 3 times.On 27 October 1805 may have been the Thomas Glanville who enlisted in the 23rd Light Dragoons, receiving the Waterloo Medal in 1815, serving as a private in Captain CW Dance's troop No. 5.
Note Thomas had two sons Peter and Thomas both paying an allotment from their Naval wages to their sister Mary Ann, possibly denoting she acted as their guardian probably after Thomas's remarriage to Mary nee Clemence.
