On 25 March 1752 the Devon Quarter Sessions records a Samuel Hall of Ottery St. Mary Labourer, on 27th January 20 George 3 was indicted "For feloniously stealing one Game Cock val 2s the goods of Thomas Glanville" Ref Devon Records Office QS10/1 Ottery St Mary Hundrend.On 26 December 1778 The London Gazette named him an attorney of Ottery St Mary:
Whereas a Commiffion of Bankrupt is awarded and ifued forth againft Henry Leigh, of Honiton in the County of Devon, Ironmonger, and he being declared a Bankrupt, is hereby required, to furrender himfelf to the Commiffioners in the faid Commiffion named, or the major Part of them, on the 8th Day of January next at Three in the Afternoon, on the 9th Day of the fame Month, and on the 9th Day of February following, at Ten in the Forenoon, at Mrs. Tucker's, the Oxford Inn, in the County of the City of Exeter; and make a full Difcovery and Disflofure of his Estate and Effects ; when and where the Creditors are to come prepared to prove their Debts, and at the fecond Sitting to chufe Affignees, and at the laft Sitting the faid Bankrupt is required to finifh his Examination, and the Creditors are to affent to or diffent from the Allowance of his Certificate. All Perfons indebted to the faid Bankrupt, or that have any of his Effects, are not to pay or delivef the fame but to whom the Commiffioners fhall appoint, but give Notice to Mr. Glanvill, Attorney, in Ottery St. Mary, Devon.
