John “Jack” Richard Glanville, loving husband and father, passed away at Cape Cod Hospital at the age of 86 from pneumonia, a complication of Parkinson’s disease, with his family at his side. Son of the late Ilka “Ella” and Frederick Glanville, Jack was born and raised in Holyoke and was a 1951 graduate of Saint Jerome High School. Jack served in the Army as a PVT from 1953 to 1955. During his time in the military he was stationed in France. Jack worked for Coca Cola Bottling for nearly 40 years in various positions from entry to management, retiring in 1998.
On a ski trip to Aspen enjoying his favorite pastime, Jack met his match and the love of his life for 49 years, Gail Perreault of Orleans. Jack and Gail were married in Orleans on October 18, 1969. They lived in South Hadley, MA for nearly forty years where they raised two daughters, Jennifer and Sarah. They made a permanent move to their vacation home in Orleans in 2006 following Gail’s retirement. Jack had a passion for skiing which he shared with Gail and both of their daughters. He enjoyed teaching skiing to others for nearly 40 years, first at Berkshire Snow Basin and then at Berkshire East. He also loved horses and passed this love on to Jennifer and Sarah. Jack looked forward to retirement and spending more time with his family and enjoying retirement with Gail, his devoted and amazing caregiver in their home in Orleans.
Jack was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit. He bravely lived with Parkinson’s Disease for more than 21 years, was active in the Orleans Parkinson’s Support Group, enjoyed and benefited from the educational programming offered by the Parkinson’s Support Network of Cape Cod, and was joined by his dedicated family and friends to raise money and participate in the annual American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) Optimism Walk. Jack is survived by his wife Gail, two daughters, Jennifer Glanville of Somerville and Wellfleet, MA, and Sarah Judge (Paul) of Beverly, MA, and three wonderful grandchildren Emma, Lillian and Aidan. Jack was preceded in death by his sister Karen. He is survived by his brothers and their wives, Frederick, (Ceil), Terrance (Arlene), David, and James (Carol), as well as many nieces, nephews and great- and grand- nieces and nephews who will forever remember their Uncle Jack.
Jack’s family would like to thank the wonderful medical staff at Cape Cod Hospital for their compassion and exceptional care, and the dedicated staff at the VNA Compass Adult Day Center in Harwich for the social and other opportunities offered there.
Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of Jack’s life from 4-7pm on Thursday, May 30th, at Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Road, Chatham, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Friday May 31st at St. Joan of Arc Church, 61 Canal Rd, Orleans with a procession to the Orleans Cemetery for the burial service where Jack will be laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Support Network of Cape Cod/APDA, 72 East Concord Street, Room C3, Boston, MA 02118.
