Biography
Professor Allan Glanville champions excellence in delivery of thoracic medical services to the broad community through support of respiratory science, research, and physiology, and promotes the involvement of young clinicians, researchers and allied health practitioners.
Prof Allan Glanville completed his surgical training in Sydney to become a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 1985. He then went on to undertake further education overseas at both London’s Brompton Hospital and Stanford University. While at Stanford he conducted studies in the new discipline of human heart-lung transplantation, culminating in him being awarded an MD in 1990.
Allan is Conjoint Professor of Medicine at the University of New South Wales and holds current positions on the editorial boards of the American Journal of Transplantation, the Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation, and seminars in respiratory and critical care medicine.
He has authored over 200 publications and has ongoing research interests in definition of chronic lung allograft dysfunction phenotypes, definition of the translational aspects of the respiratory virome, therapeutic strategies for community acquired respiratory viral infections in the immune suppressed host, pathogenesis and management of antibody mediated lung allograft rejection, and innovative antifibroproliferative therapies for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
