     The Exeter and Plymouth Gazette reported:
RAILING IT IN THE TRUNK LINE.- Mary Ann Glanville an old woman, and Ann Scone her daughter, were charged by Susan Glanville, the wife of the elderly defendant's step-son, with a breach of the peace in the Higher Market on the previous Friday. The belligerents were trunk makers, and the step-son had aroused the ire of his mother-in-law for having had the "howdaciousness" to set up shop in a stall beside her own, from which step she imputed to him the wicked design of attempting "to take the bread out of her mouth;" she therefore seized every opportunity of convincing "her friends and the general public," that she repudiated all connection with "the other house." On this occasion Mrs. Susan Glanville had risen on her husband's stall, to reach down a trunk to a customer; in descending, not having the winged feet of the mercurial god, she was fain to hold by a chair in order to maintain the poise on which depended her preservation of the perpendicular. Hereupon Mrs. Glanville, senr., rushed to the onset, snatched away the chair, and the result was "a screw loose" in the frame work of social relations, to aggravate which the old lady gave the young one a push, which formed the ground of the charge, the feminine Scone using very unfeminine expressions. A crony of the elder Glanville, named Catherine Cribland, who acted as cup-of-tea holder to her "friend" on that occasion, was called to prove the dire extent of the competition between the litigants. Just previous to the squabble, a customer called at Mrs. Mary Ann Glanville's stall for a trunk. She produced a sixpenny one, when Mrs. Susan Glanville immediately thrust forward a good one, and said that the person should have it for 4d., whilst her husband pushed in between the two with a bigger trunk than either, and announced that was was "positively going" for 3d. - The Bench dismissed Scone, but fined her mother 6s., including expenses. on 23 January 1847.
The Western Times reported that Mary Glanville and her daughter Mary Ann Scone were charged with an assault on Susan Glanville, daughter in law. The two parties were trunkmakers occupying opposing stalls in the market at Exeter. Defendents fined 1s each on 23 January 1847.
In 1851 it may be she was the married Mary A Scoins in the census living as step daughter to William and Mary. Clearly there is confusion in the newspaper reports on which relationships were step and which were natural.
