Mr R Y Glanville
Formerly of Llanteg
RONALD Yorke Glanville passed away peacefully at the age of 92 years on July 13 at Woodland Lodge, Gumfreston, Tenby.
He was born at West Llanteg Farm in 1922 and was one of four children of James Yorke and Edith Glanville.
After leaving Crunwere Church School he worked for a short while as an apprentice at an aircraft factory in Gloucestershire before joining the army in 1942. He served in the Royal Army Service Corps throughout Europe before being demobbed in 1946.
Ronald married Audrey (nee Williams) in 1947 at Carvan Chapel near Tavernspite and they subsequently spent almost their entire married life in Llanteg. They had three children David who sadly died a week after his father, Peter who died in infancy and Pam.
He was a hardworking man whose career ranged from driving for Bibby’s Agricultural Merchants, British Rail before finally working at the Proof and Experimental establishment, Pendine until retirement in 1987. He made many lasting friendships both at work and within the village community. He was always willing to help others and was a regular blood donor gaining many achievement awards.
During retirement he continued to enjoy his interests of sport, motoring and his garden. He lovingly cared for Audrey when her health deteriorated.
They celebrated 60 years of marriage and were joined by family and friends to mark the occasion. Despite Audrey’s death later in 2007 Ronald remained independent and was able to live in Llanteg with family support until 2013 when he moved to Woodland Lodge where he received wonderful care for 14 months.
The family left to mourn are Pam Mason-Williams (daughter); Sandi Glanville, Helen Glanville and Emily Mason-Williams (granddaughters); Harry Mortimer (great grandson); John (sonin- law); Juliet (daughter-inlaw); Paul Mortimer (Sandi’s partner).
A joint service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth for Ronald and his son David and was officiated by the Rev Hywel Brown and the Rev David Gooding.
The bearers were Alan Glanville, Brian Glanville, Gareth Glanville and Tony Brinsden.
The family are grateful for the support given to them during this difficult time and for the professional and dignified manner in which the funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr Stewart Treharne of E C Thomas Funeral Directors.
