Emily Jane Glanville was born on 8 August 1825 at Friendsfield, Tobago; actually recorded/transcribed Friordsfield.She was baptized on 24 November 1825 at St Andrews Church, Scarborough, Tobago, by the Rev. Robert Adam.
She married William Kelso Martin on 6 October 1842 at St Andrews Church, Scarborough, Tobago, (when age calculated as 17 years, 1 month and 28 days) witnesses to the marriage were John Glanville and John Thornton. "William and his friend Thornton had gone down to see the Packet come in and the passengers landing. Amongst the latter was Emily Glanville who was arriving in Tobago from England and school. The passengers had to walk along a narrow plank from the steamer to the shore, she tripped on the plank and would have fallen into the water had not William Martin caught her and helped her to safety. He declared that he fell in love with her at that moment, certainly it was a very short time afterwards in the same year that they married. She was only 17 years of age."
She died on 17 July 1864 at Weymouth Street, London, MDX, ENG, (when age calculated as 38.)
She was buried at Highgate Cemetery, London, MDX, ENG.
