Fanshawe Glanville acting commander of the 16 gun "Wasp", one of 9 Corvettes, Sloops and Brigs on the Mediterranean station.

On 6 March 1850 The Times p7 reported appointment of William Fanshawe Glanville (1846) to Captain.
On 22 January 1851 The Times p7 reported Commodore Fanshaw C.B. applied for Captain W F Glanville to be his flag-captain, vice Buckle.
On 23 November 1853 The Times p12 reported Rear-Admiral Fanshawe's flagship likely to be "Boscawen", and his nephew Captain William F Glanville (1846) his flag-captain.

William Fanshawe Glanville is son, we believe, of Fras. Glanville, Esq., of Catchfrench, co. Cornwall, a Magistrate and Deputy-Lieutenant for that county, and formerly M.P. for Malmesbury, by Elizabeth, second daughter of Robt. Fanshawe, Esq. Commissioner of Plymouth Dockyard; and nephew of Capt., Arthur Fanshawe, R.N.
This officer entered the Navy, 28 Feb. 1821; and obtained his first commission 15 Dec. 1827. He was afterwards appinted - 28 Aug. 1828, to the PALLAS 42, Capts. Adolphus FitzClarence and Manley Hall Dixon, employed on Particular Service - 7 Nov. 1832, to the SPARTIATE 76, Capt. Robt. Tait, in South America - 25 Nov. 1836, to the DIDO 18, Capt, Lewis Davies, on the Mediterranean station - 6 Jan. 1839, to the PRINCESS CHARLOTTE 104, bearing the flag there of his uncle Sir Robt. Stopford - 29 April, 1839, to the CASTER 36, Capt. Edw. Collier - and, 6 March, 1840, again to the PRINCESS CHARLOTTE. For his services as Flag-Lieutenant of the latter ship at the capture of St. Jean d'Acre (where, besides the duties he had to perform in the signals, he was actively employed in the boats communicating with the different ships along the line of the two divisions as necessity required, and was in consequence personally recommended to the notice of the Admiralty) he was promoted to the rank of Commander by commision dated 4 Nov. 1840. He afterwards served, from 10 Jan. 1843 unti Nov. 1845, as Second-Captain fo the ST VINCENT 120, flag-ship of Sir Chas. Rowley at Portsmouth; and on 9 Nov. 1846, was advance to his present rank. He is now on half-pay.
He married, 7 July, 1841, his cousin Mary Anne, youngest daughter of the late Vice-Admiral Bedford, of Stonehall.
