10 May 1822 (p304 column 4)In the Exchequer and Quarter Sessions. This case, which is of importance, as regarding the post horse duty, but more so as confirming the power of review in the Court of Exchequer, over proceedings of Justices of Peace and inferior Courts, in revenue matters, has now been brought to a conclusion. The defendent, William Glanville, being licensed to let horses to hire, was required, by Mr Mill, the farmer of the post horse duty, in the month of August last, to deliver an account of the horses to let by him. This he declined doing, alleging, that his horses were saddle-horses let by time, for travelling, and that is was then undetermined, whether such lettings were liable to pay post horse duty, which, it may be noticed was subsequently in the Exchequer, on 1st February last, decided in favour of the revenue. Final finding for Mr Mill who was entitled to costs.
