DANGER OF CHEAP LAMPS
An inquest was held at Battersea yesterday on an old woman named Glanvill, who died from the effects of burns. While endeavouring to light a penny lamp with a piece of paper preparatory to going to bed she upset the oil, which caught fire and ignited her clothes. The landlady of the house, hearing screams, rushed in, and, rolling the old woman on the floor, extinguished the flames, but by this time she had sustained serious injuries.
The jury, in returning a verdict of "accidental death," strongly condemned the use of cheap lamps, and they also spoke appreciatively of the action of the landlady

THE DANGER OF CHEAP LAMPS
Mr John Troutbeck held an inquest at Battersea on Monday on the body of Mrs Lucy Glanvill, 72, of Goulden Street, Battersea, who died in Wandsworth Infirmary from the effects of burns...
... A London Fire Brigade officer said that these cheap lamps were in extensive use. They were very dangerous, and fires were frequently caused by them....
