Carl Glanville
May 4, 1923-March 18 , 2011
Carl Glanville died March 18, 2011. Born May 4, 1923, to Carlen and Mary Glanville, he was raised in Colorado, California and Oregon. Carl moved to Anchorage in 1943 where he worked for Alaska Star before moving to Cordova to work as a mechanic and pilot for Cordova Airlines and Mudhole Smith.
It was in Cordova that he met and married Dessie Headly, his beloved wife of 56 years. Carl and Dessie moved to Oregon for a few years where their four children were born. Deciding that Alaska would be a better place to raise their family, they moved to the Homer area in 1960. Carl, a homesteader, operated Glanville Lumber, was an airplane mechanic, pilot, U.S. mail carrier, borough assemblyman and gold miner.
Carl loved Alaska with the freedom and opportunity it afforded him. He was an independent thinker who required no social proof in determining his path and followed more dreams than he did rules.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dessie; son, Bruce; parents, Carlen and Mary; sisters, Evelyn and Kathryrn; and brother, Ben.
He is survived by his brother, Don; daughter, Denise; son, Dwight and his wife Diann; son John and his wife Laurie; grandsons, Shane and his wife Tamara; David and his wife Megan; Grant; Blake; and great granddaughter Briel.

GAME TO THE END
The Murder of an Englishman
Details of the murder of Mr Lawrence Glanville, an English engineer at Marghil, on the Persian Gulf, and of Yusuf Hamidi, a native assistant, have been received by Reuter.
The robbers who perpetrated the crime shot Yusuf Hamidi three times through the heart. He was told to keep out of the way, but he persisted in warning Mr. Glanville, who was caught like a rat in a trap.
The murderers fired at Mr. Glanville as he stood on the steps of the bathroom, and he was hit five or six times before the gang rushed on him
He then threw his gun at them after his wrist had been disabled by a bullet. The robbers surrounded him, and he fell. He lived for about an hour, and was game to the end.
