The Late Mrs C. D. Glanville
An old and respected resident of East Freemantle in the person of Mrs Cecilia Deborah Glanville, wife of Mr Henry Charles Glanville, chemist, of Market-street, Fremantle died at her residence, Glanvceil, 151 Canning-road, East Fremantle, on Saturday last. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon, when the cortege proceeded from the residence to St Peter's Church, Canning-road, East Fremantle, where a service was conducted by the Rev. T. Secombe, assisted by the Rev. G. R. Holland. Mr Secombe, in the course of an address referred in feeling terms to the exemplary lief of the deceased. She had been unstinting in her labours for the benefit of the Church and needy, he said. The remains were interred in the Church of England portion of the Karrakatta cemetery, and Mr. Holland officiated at the graveside.
Mrs Glanville was born in Tasmania, and at an early age went to Victoria with her parents during the gold rush. They settled in Stawell where she married Mr Alfred Nettleton, a mining engineer. After the decease of her first husband she married Captain Stafford of Williamstown, Victoria. She followed the profession of nursing in Williamstown for many years under the direction of Drs Figg, Hehlmann, McLean and Johnson, and was generally considered one of the most proficient nurses in Victoria.
She came to Western Australia 40 years ago, for the benefit of her health, and was well known in Fremantle for her business acumen; and her kind and generous disposition won for her the affection of all those with whom she came into contact. After coming to Western Australia she practised nursing in the metropolitain area for many years, principally under Drs H.J. Lots, A.T. White and the late Dr Birmingham. She was a foundation member and ardent worker for St. Peter's Church, East Fremantle, particularly the Girl's Friendly Society, and was also actively associated wti the local boy scouts. She leaves a husband, two sons, three daughters, 19 grandchildren and 16 greatgrandchildren to mourn their loss. The pall-bearers were the Mayor of Fremantle, Mr F.E.Gibson (Pharmaceutical Society of W.A.), Messrs F. Hipkin (Fremantle Chemists), T Whitely (Glanville's pharmacy). E. Blaize (St John's Ambulance, Fremantle branch), R. Sharp and T. Brown (Boy Scout's Association), W.T. Wester (St. Peter's Church), and Dick Holland. The chief mourners were Mr H.C. Glanville (husband), Mesdames A.M. Bridger, H.D. Blakey, F. Bull and Miss K. Glanville, daughters; Messrs F.D. Nettleton (sone) and H.D. Blakey (son-in-law), Mrs E.D. Nettleton (daughter-in-law), Mr E.D. Nettleton, Mr and Mrs A.E. Bridger, Mrs W Purser, Misses F. Brown and C. Nettleton (grandchildren), Mesdames T. Murley and Pead (nieces).
