Dessie Headley Glanville escaped her mortality as death was swallowed up in victory June 16, 2008, at the home of her Anchor River homestead. She was born May 19, 1920, a daughter of the late Silas and Barbara Headley in Monroe, Ohio.
She attended Bethesda School of Nursing in Zanesville, where she became a registered nurse in 1945. After moving to Cordova as a Baptist missionary nurse, she met and married Carl Glanville in 1952.
Besides raising four children, Dessie worked as a staff nurse and as the director of nursing at the Homer Hospital. She later worked as a contract mail carrier in Anchor Point and as a gold miner at Cape Yakatage.
Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Carl Glanville; a daughter, Denise Glanville of Colorado Springs, Colo; two sons, Dwight (Diann) Glanville, John (Laurie) Glanville, all of Anchor Point; four grandsons, David Grant, Shane and Blake Glanville; and sister-in-law, Shirley Headley of Woodsfield.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Glanville; a brother, Homer; and two sisters, Jessie and Hazel.
She loved people and is remembered by many for her kind and loving spirit. The family wishes to express their heart-felt appreciation to all those who went the extra mile to brighten Dessie’s last years with encouragement and love.
