Laurence William George Glanville was born circa May 1876 at New Cross, KEN, ENG; registered Greenwich.He died on 28 February 1906 at Maaghil, Basra, Arabia; reported in The Times 2 Mar p5, where he was described as a Londoner, aged about 32, that he was the engineer in charge of the repairing depot of the Euphrates and Tigris Steamers, and had been in the company's service about 8 years. He was shot defending the depot from Arab attack.

The Murder of an Englishman
Details of the murder of Mr Lawrence Glanville, an English engineer at Marghil, on the Persian Gulf, and of Yusuf Hamidi, a native assistant, have been received by Reuter.
The robbers who perpetrated the crime shot Yusuf Hamidi three times through the heart. He was told to keep out of the way, but he persisted in warning Mr. Glanville, who was caught like a rat in a trap.
The murderers fired at Mr. Glanville as he stood on the steps of the bathroom, and he was hit five or six times before the gang rushed on him
He then threw his gun at them after his wrist had been disabled by a bullet. The robbers surrounded him, and he fell. He lived for about an hour, and was game to the end.
On 8 June 1908 The Times p4 reported £500 paid to the mother of Mr Glanville, he was employed by Mssrs Lynch and murdered Feb 1906 by Arabs at Maaghil.
