Other information

On 24 June 1907 she was admitted to Bethlem Royal Hospital London, recorded age 23, single, occupation dressmaker from address 11 Church Walk Kensington on the authority of Mary Glanville of the same address named Mother.
Discharged 11 Sep 1907, recovered.
Her casenotes record her attack was one month at admission, without supposed cause and she have a paternal aunt afflicted with insanity. General incoherence complains of pain in her arm from having been shot, which is not the case. Says she has had two children or "rather that one was a sort of miscarriage" - that people are publishing insulting things in the paper about her. Talks incessantly of foolish unconnected matters, says she wished she had a pistol she could end her life - became violent at her monthly periods totally unmanageable. Told me by her mother Mary Glanville 11 Church Walk Kensington.
Says she had pain in left arm result of being shot some six yeras ago (no foundation in fact) that right thumb is dislocated, that she has a paoin also in left side since she had a pain which hit her. Talking continually - want of continuity of thought.
Her record states a parternal aunt insane for some years.
Present attack: about 6 months became excited easily, laughing and chattering. Continued to work till 6 weeks ago when employer had to dismiss her because other girls objected. Thought she was married and had two children. Became troublesome and unmangeable Violent temper. Great difficulty in keeping her at home. Hallucination of ghosts and animals at night, hearing voices, tastes poison in medicine, smells all over house, pain from being shot in left arm.
Diagnosis : Mania.
Patient is a fairly well nourished though somewhat anaemic girl of average height. She is quiet and well behaved though rather inclined to laugh unneccessarily. She talks rather rapidly and her whole demeanour though not maniacal is suggestive of simple mania passing off. Her conversation is perfectly rational, she answer questions well and relevantly and appears to have no delusions of hallucinations. With regard to her delusions before admission she state that although these did exist to a certain extent they were much exaggerated by her friends.
1 July Patient is now quite composed and quiet. She is perhaps rather too reserved and quiet and is not very inclined to converse. She occupies herself well and reads a good deal and seems quite happy.
22 July Appears to be well though very quiet and thoughtful and reserved
Sep 11 discharged recovered.
